Lightwell in residential building: Architectural solutions to the daylighting performance through parametric simulation

The lightwell is an architectural solution to promote daylight into the internal spaces from core of a building. shaft configurations, such as geometry and reflectance can affect performance daylighting entering adjoining rooms under different conditions. This study aims indicate adequate solutions improve buildings with lightwells at three southern latitudes. From base model 6-stories building, alternative cases were parametrically simulated using Rhinoceros, GrassHopper ClimateStudio software. variations in walls reflectance, analyzed considering lighting metrics UDI sDA300. Results demonstrate that on floors near top building weakens towards it. In Macapá, São Paulo Chile, sDA values reach 100 % floor, but only 3 first floor. It was also observed materials high diffuse more efficient improving than increasing its geometry. research presents early-design guidance inform architects policymakers when exploitation by use lightwell.
